Pillow between your legs:

How?

  • Most often, you sleep on your side. In this posture, your hips and legs are flexed and aligned. Ideally, this posture leaves the upper leg unsupported, the thigh and top knee tends to slide forward and lay on the mattress, and the lower spine may rotate. The slight rotation may cause hip or back pain. Placing pillow between the thighs or knees helps to prevent that problem.
  • Additionally, if you usually sleep on your side, placing a pillow between the legs helps keep hips from slipping and twisting. Thus, your body is prevented from angling over while you sleep. Furthermore, it is a good practice to place a pillow between the legs since it prevents your knees from touching, which takes body pressure off the joints and hips.Side Sleep Position
  • However, you should be very keen when placing a pillow between the leg and thighs while sleeping to prevent morning leg tightness. Been keen also prevents instances of fatigue, headaches, heartburn, back pain and sleep apnea. Hence, make sure to pull your knees up a bit toward the chest. Make sure you neck and head lie in the same angle when you sleep by side; avoid twisting your neck a bit. This may cause neck pains. Remember to avoid bending or twisting at the waist when turning in the bed; alternatively, move your body as one unit. Also, keep your belly tightened and pulled in. Besides, keep your shoulders, hips, and ears aligned when turning.

Why?

  • Sleeping with pillow between the legs is a great position to alleviate body pains. The quality of you mattress and pillow affect your sleep. The condition of the mattress and pillow often dictates your sleeping position. If your mattress is old, worn-out and sags in the middle or it doesn’t offer enough support, sleeping on your side is more difficult. The same applies to your pillow, if it is old and worn-out, it will not be comfortable between your legs. At times, the brand of the pillow may be an issue. Some pillow brands are very stiff, and they may cause pains between your legs while you sleep.
