Remove the mattress and relocate it

While most people will tell you to remove the topper from the mattress, it is better not to remove just yet. Remove the entire mattress from your bedroom and place it on a firm area that has good air circulation. The outdoors would be a great option or a room that has a couple of windows open. If you have allergies especially to dust, this would be a good time for you to cover up with the necessary gear before getting down to the real cleaning.

Use a vacuum

To get off the loose dust, dust mites, dead skin cells and any other dirt that might be on the mattress foam topper, use a vacuum hose. Make sure that you are thorough and remember that you need to take time to dig into those nooks and crannies. This is more so if the topper has crevices as these increase the surface area. You have to make sure that nothing is left behind. While doing this, you are also removing the particles that might have found their way into the mattress as the mattress gives you a good ground for vacuuming and the weight to make vacuuming much easier.

Spot cleaning

Next you will need to come up with a cleaning solution that will take care of any stains or dirt that is stuck to the mattress topper. For this you will need some small amount of water, a cotton cloth and a gentle laundry detergent. Dip the cloth into the cleaning solution made out of mixing water and the laundry detergent and use it to spot clean the areas that you see the stains. Better yet if you have the time, clean the entire surface of the topper. Do not forget to flip it and clean the other side as well as well as the sides which are usually forgotten.

Time to bring in the spray bottle

This is a great tip that will help you get rid of all the deep sitting dirt. In a ratio of 2:1, mix some lukewarm water and your gentle detergent once more. Put this in a spray bottle and spray the solution on the mattress cover. However, be careful not to drench it. Leave the solution to settle for a couple of hours. After you have done this, using a clean cotton cloth and clean water, remove the detergent from your memory foam mattress topper by pressing against the mattress. Make sure that after a couple of presses, you rinse the cloth.

Depending on how thorough you want the cleaning to be, you can keep rinsing the cloth and pressing it in the mattress.

Once you have completed doing this, you can then place the mattress in a shady area and leave it to dry. Remember that you will need to flip it after 24 hours to make sure that it has completely dried so that there is no formation of mildew and also, the moisture does not cause problems to your health.
